September Loves ...

Summer is gradually fading away an Autumn is falling upon us, the slight warmth of Summer still lingers as the ink of the night sky gradually appears and as the seasons change, September brings about many new chapters.
New adventures are under way as school years begin, pencils are sharpened, blank notebooks are opened, uniforms are pressed , friendships are blossomed and made.
Autumn/Winter wardrobes are being re-modelled, chunky knits I simply love, Winter boots I look forward to breaking in, Jewel tones I can't wait to explore. Chanel metallic nail varnishes I can't wait to wear, perfecting the use of Mac 'Brave Red' lipstick an the eyeliner I have finally cracked. London Fashion Week sets the capital alive and opens our eyes to the creativity, talent and beauty that we will soon be gazing at in the editions of Vogue.
Recipe pages are book marked on homemade thick crusty breads, pipping hot chunky soups, apple & cinnamon cake. Stacks of books have been collated from the classics, to bestsellers ready to be discovered on the perfect Sunday afternoon with a cup of milky tea. X

London Fashion Week-Burberry Prorsum

Burberry has been a centerpiece of fashion week in recent seasons as Bailey has helped revitalize the brand after years of drift. Staged in a temporary building erected in Kensington Gardens just across from the Royal Albert Hall, the Burberry extravaganza drew top models, including Lily Donaldson, and American Vogue editor Anna Wintour along with stylish Alexa Chung.

Bailey dipped into the Burberry archives for his inspiration for the Autumn Winter 2011 collection, inspired by images of swinging '60s icon Jean Shrimpton. He married that vision of wide-eyed English chic with his musing on the weather. He played on the theme of coat dressing, combining different textures — fur with tweed or knits with leather trim.

Bailey is credited with giving the company a cutting edge image while still paying homage to its traditional, more conservative designs. So there was plenty of plaid — as one might expect with Burberry — but it went far beyond the traditional check.

Coats came in mustard or black or red — some with voluminous sleeves. One take off on the classic trench came in white wool knit — a combination that nodded to its popular design while adding a chunky 'Let's warm the toes around the fire' feel. The company's military heritage was evident in the epaulettes, buckles and braiding on many of the coats and dresses, but the clothes were soft, feminine and witty.

London Fashion Week- Mulberry

Mulberry's creative director Emma Hill transported her starry audience back to their childhood by drawing inspiration for this collection from Roald Dahl's classic, Fantastic Mr Fox.

Claridge's Ball Room had been given a countryside makeover, the catwalk was surrounded by woodland scenery - trees, birds, toadstools - magical. There were red jacketed fox hunters handing out cakes with blackberry and apple juice drinks. And just to add to the woodland theme that bit more they went that bit further by labelling the rows after animals, not numbers - Foxes for the front row, Hedgehogs for the second etc. Entering the enchanted forest by nightfall the show began...

The iconic Mulberry accessories in-particular bags for Autumn 2011 were 'the colour of polished conkers.' with wedge-heeled 'Tillie' ankle boots and, the ultimate accessory, handbag-sized dogs to fit into your Bayswater.

Mulberry- Autumn/Winter 2011

For next season, Mulberry has a great silhouette-Gorgeous gold plisse gowns, to school-girl, knee-high socks worn with culottes, somehow everything appeared instantly on-the-money.
Maxi skirts and dresses with a flouncey hem under pocketed, belted jackets, or high-waisted jodpur-tight trousers with tan knee high boots (which are going to be the top of every wish list come Autumn), all in an autumnal palette of khakis, aubergine, greys and browns.
Skirts were pleated and maxi long; or there were box pleated A-line miniskirts or cullottes. One look, a CND symbol embossed black pleated maxi skirt, worn under a belted pocketed leather jacket is going to be all over the street style blogs next winter.

It was a show that was firmly embedded in Mulberry’s unashamedly English heritage.
